# Finbolt

> Finbolt gives AI agents analyst tools over MCP. Composite tools answer common questions in one call, backed by 113 financial data tools covering stock quotes and price history, company fundamentals, earnings, news sentiment, forex, crypto, commodities, US economic indicators and 50+ technical indicators. Built for AI agents and MCP clients (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, custom agents).

## Install

Follow https://getfinbolt.com/install.md (also at https://api.getfinbolt.com/install.md): sign up, configure your MCP client, verify. Agents without MCP support can call the endpoint with plain JSON-RPC over HTTP; see that file.

## Get an API key (agents can do this themselves)

1. `POST https://api.getfinbolt.com/api/signup` with JSON `{"email": "<your human's email>"}`.
2. The response contains `api_key` (shown once, store it) and `session_token`.
3. Use the API key as the Bearer token on the MCP endpoint.

Use the email of the person you act for. Do not invent emails.

## Plans

- Free: 25 tool calls/day, 1/sec, of which up to 5 can be composite calls. Core stock, fundamentals, forex, crypto, commodities, economic and technical data.
- Pro: $29/month. 500 tool calls/day, 10/sec, composite calls included. Adds Alpha Intelligence (news sentiment, top gainers/losers, insider transactions, analytics).

## Upgrade to Pro

1. `POST https://api.getfinbolt.com/api/upgrade` with header `Authorization: Bearer <session_token>` and JSON `{"success_url": "...", "cancel_url": "..."}`.
2. The response contains `checkout_url`, a Stripe Checkout page. Give this link to your human to pay. The key is upgraded automatically once payment succeeds; no new key is needed.

## Errors agents should handle

- `Authentication required` / `Invalid API key`: sign up (above) or check the key.
- `Premium feature: '<tool>' requires a paid subscription`: upgrade (above) or use a free tool.
- `Daily rate limit exceeded` / `Per-second rate limit exceeded`: wait, or upgrade.

## Start with the composite tools

Each one runs several data calls and returns compact JSON (a few hundred tokens) with plain-language states, `as_of` and `sources`. A composite call counts as one call. Free keys get 5 composite calls a day.

- `analyze_stock(symbol)`: fundamentals from SEC filings cited by accession (TTM revenue, growth, margin, net income, free cash flow; bank figures for banks), delayed price, 52-week range, 50/200-day averages, RSI, market cap and P/E, up to 4 descriptive observations. News sentiment on Pro.
- `compare_stocks(symbols)`: 2-6 tickers side by side with a ranking per metric.

## Tool list

The default `tools/list` has the composite tools, 17 core data tools (quotes, search, daily/weekly/monthly series, overview, statements, earnings, SMA, EMA, RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, news sentiment, exchange rate) and two meta-tools:

- `find_tool(query)`: search all 113 data tools, returns names and argument schemas.
- `run_tool(name, arguments)`: call any data tool by name. Every tool can also be called directly by name.

To list every tool, send the header `X-Finbolt-Tools: all` or connect to `https://api.getfinbolt.com/mcp?tools=all`.
